DOMESTIC CHILD CARE R2000 – 4 WORKSHOPS

Our Domestic Child Care Workshops are held monthly. It is 2 full days of training, from 08h30 - 16h30. The full workshop is 4 workshops at R2000. You can also do individual workshops at R550 each. Please contact us for the next course dates.

WORKSHOP 1 : BASIC CHILD CARE

This covers all the essential aspects of every day baby care

  • Qualities of a child minder
  • How to pick up and carry a baby correctly
  • Cot safety and positioning a baby to sleep
  • Personal hygiene
  • Feeding hygiene
  • Bottle Sterilization
  • Making a formula feed
  • Nappy Changing procedure
  • Teething and dental care
  • The importance of a good routine
  • Introduction to solids and the importance of a balanced diet
  • Home safety and security
  • Accident prevention
  • Prevention of childhood poisoning and burns
  • Phone and Screen time use

WORKSHOP 2 : EMERGENCY CARE AND FIRST AID

CPR and Choking:

  • Infant and child CPR (practice on manikin)
  • Management of choking in babies and children

First Aid:

  • Recognizing and helping a sick child
  • How to manage a temperature
  • How to make up re – hydration fluid for diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Activation of the Emergency Service

Use of the First Aid kit in conjunction with the treatment of the following:

  • Burns
  • Bleeding
  • Fractures
  • Bee stings
  • Crush injuries
  • Concussion
  • Poisoning

WORKSHOP 3 : HIV AND AIDS AWARENESS

N.B HIV pre- employment testing or employment testing is not allowed by law in S.A. HIV education is essential to ensure that the universal precautions are carried out at all times.

Group discussions including the following topics:

  • Pre and Post testing procedures
  • The importance of knowing ones status
  • Protection against transmission of the virus
  • Procedures in the domestic situation
  • Living positively with HIV

WORKSHOP 4 : STIMULATION AND PLAY WORKSHOP

One of the best ways to enhance your child’s development is to enhance their play.

The Course includes:

  • The theory behind play
  • Normal developmental milestones from birth up
  • Senses and stimulation of the senses
  • Over-stimulation
  • Lots of fun outside ideas
  • Lots of play ideas with common household goods
  • Fun imaginative ideas to enhance play
  • Common household toys will be used for demonstration

The course participants will also be given time to
actually play with these toys so that they can experience them before playing with the children.

Extra Courses on Offer

WORKSHOP 5 : WATER SAFETY AND DROWN PREVENTION

This course is run in the Summer months and is run when we have enough participants.


The Course includes:

  • Water Safety theory
  • Water Safety in the home
  • Water Safety outdoors
  • Orientation of the swimming pool
  • A dip in the pool to demystify the water
  • Rescue from the pool without getting into the water
  • Employers Handbook

FIRST AID COURSES FOR MOMS, DADS AND BABYSITTERS

We offer two short courses that are appropriate for anyone looking after children:

  1. CPR and Choking.
    This course covers these topics in adults, children and infants.
  2. Basic First Aid with CPR and Choking.
    This course covers only children and infants. We cover CPR and Choking as well as topics including seizures, burns, wounds, drowning, allergic reactions and poisoning.
  • Both courses are 4 hours long
  • The cost is R650pp
  • You will receive a certificate on completion of the course
